What is important to know about having to short-sale your home is that ultimately you want to salvage your credit as much as possible.  Once the lender has foreclosed on the property it’s just too late to salvage your credit situation.  By going through a short-sale on your property you manage to have a better position with regard to your credit so that should you desire to purchase another property, you simply stand a better chance.  So to summarize, your still going to lose your home either to a foreclosure or a short-sale.  However a short-sale simply gives you a better credit rating.
